At One Forty-Six, every event is more than just a gathering—it's a meticulously orchestrated experience shaped by the passion and expertise of our team. Today, we shine the spotlight on Claire Griffith, the creative force and General Manager behind the scenes. Join us as Claire shares her insights, inspirations, and a glimpse into what makes her tick.
Q: What's the most unexpected skill you've gained from in your career in the event management industry?
A: "It’s wild how many wedding cakes are delivered too early and start to melt. Especially butter cream in the summer. I’ve had a number of cake toppers (including my own) slide off the top of the cake. Emergency cake recovery is critical. Fortunately, a little greenery and florals work wonders."
Q: How do you stay energized and inspired in your role as General Manager?
A: "My clients keep me young. I also love working with younger staff members. I enjoy trading information. They know cool new things, and I know cool old things. I also love to follow other people and places on social media and online. I grew up in the Charleston, SC area and still have lots of friends in the area that are involved in some major event companies. It’s fun to see what they're up to and visit them for inspiration."
Q: If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: "Professionally, I’d love an unlimited supply of tablecloths. I love them. There are constantly new fabrics and designs coming out. A table linen can do so much, so quickly for a space."
Q: What's your go-to karaoke song?
A: "Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads. It’s so fun to sing!"
Q: What's the most unusual hobby you have or would like to have?
A: "Personally, plants. I LOVE plants, flowers and trees. I love to grow and give flowers. I never throw my spaghetti jars away, just so I can fill them with arrangements and give them to friends. I also love to shark tooth/gem hunt. I absolutely LOVE to hunt for things in the dirt, the muddier the better. Running to the coast for a day of hunting is on my short list of favorite things to do. I really wish I did it more."
Q: Any particular book that's had a significant impact on you?
A: My very first OMG book was probably Dr. Jekylle and Mr. Hyde. It changed reading for me. When I was younger I spent my summers at my grandparents’ home in Philly. There weren’t many kids my age and I didn’t have much to do, so my grandmother handed me that book. She said it would keep me entertained for a while. Mind you I was probably 10 or 12. I loved it. I couldn’t believe it. It was so unlike anything I had ever read. It was the one that sparked my love for literature. After she gave me Dr. Jekylle and Mr. Hyde she introduced me Jane Austin. Also, honorable mention. Emily Post’s Etiquette. Every good southern woman should have a copy. I took an entire semester in college around that book and still have my copy."
Q: If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?
A: "I would absolutely love to be better at quite a few things however, short list would be carpentry, and gardening. I wish I could build things like Joanna Gains husband and grow things like my mother in law."
Q: Lastly, what are some beliefs that you hold dear?
A: "I believe in God and I believe most people are good. I also believe in Magic, and karma."
